We’ve music streaming into Surf Merchant from all over the sphere. Sometimes we crank it up with some Australian triple J radio. At others, 5fm direct from the Mother City – Cape Town, South Africa – is right on cue. That said, the Irish have a knack for tapping a beat, and our very own Dublin-based Phantom FM lays down some fresh tracks. Not only are they a progressive bunch of melodists, playing a set that diverges far from the mainstream top 40, they keep a close ear to the ground for gigs, events, even the odd job! Still, a Dublin surf report seemed to be pushing the boundaries! “Screw it, Let’s do it!” they cried, with typical Branson-brass. Quirky and novel, we dig the idea. It even inspired us to tweet about Surf Seeds!

It’s been a lousy couple of months for surf, but good to see our crew are using their time productively in the off-season. Good on you Cian, keep recording…

SOLD – THANKS TO ALL WHO ENQUIRED!
One from JD’s quiver that he has to admit is now surplus to his requirements. We have to move on sometime Jonny, even if it is a tear-jerker!
So here it is – a 6’8″ x 18.75″ x 2.5″ Geraghty-shaped thruster with glassed-in fins. A couple of heavy sessions led to a little nose and tail damage, but we professionally repaired & reinforced that, so it’s good as gold. Ideal for surfers progressing from a mal, or as a big wave charger for intermediate surfers (case in point on our vid section). It comes with a Hurricane board bag and Island Style leash. With the demise of The Surfers Path (in my opinion, it’s written by too many preachy, Eco-warriors), in steps Drift. A classy outfit if you ask me, their “progressive editorial and adaptive, collaborative content” is, as they say themselves, “divergent and disruptive, but grounded in tradition and with a smart and inspired worldview…Drift is your connection to this elusive counter-culture”. High-falutin’ stuff, but bring it back home – They recently ran an interview with Max Brosi of Cedar Surfboards, a local, underground, organic Shaper, who we at Surf Merchant have the utmost respect for. Worldview maybe, but Drift knows that it starts at the grassroots. Surf Merchant salutes you.
